Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is awaiting for IT and other sector companies for investments

MIHAN-SEZ is the biggest economical development project in Vidarbha region and in central India in terms of investment. The construction of internal roads, laying of sewage lines and water pipe lines, laying of optical fibre network for telecom sector, 24 kms compound wall, sub-station for energy distribution and bus stops are ready for investors. Around 80 percent infrastructural work has been completed. The MADC has spent around Rs 1,000 crore for creating this awesome infrastructure. The MADC has acquired 3,313 hectares of land for construction of Cargo Hub and SEZ. The total acquisition for MIHAN and SEZ would be 4354 hectares of land that includes 183 hectares of Governments land.

A SEZ of 2086 hectares, largest multi-product SEZ in India, has been built along side the airport. Out of 2086 hectares, 1472 hectares would be used by various processing units to be set-up and remaining 614 hectares for service sector unit. Like all SEZs it is having financial incentives and soft taxation policy to attract investment. Initial set-up material for these units and later raw material will be duty-free. Caliber Point is the independent BPO arm of Hexaware Technologies, a leading global IT & BPO services company. Caliber Point provides end-to-end Business Process Outsourcing services to large global players and Fortune 1000 companies. Caliber Point has started its working and around 400 persons have been employed in the organisation. The youths of Vidarbha especially from Nagpur city have got jobs in the organisation. This is the only company which has started its functioning in SEZ area. The modern architectural building of Caliber Point was constructed in record 8 months. Construction of building of Tata Aeronautics Limited (TAL) has been completed and installation of machineries is going on. Sources informed, TAL will start its trial production of Boeing floor beam within two months. Coland Systems, an IT Company is developing IT Park on 100 acres of land in SEZ area. The company will be having one building of 4.5 lakh sq ft area and it will construct 8 buildings. The construction of a building in first phase is going on. The thermal power plant of Abhijeet Group at Khairi (k) is likely to be kicked off in September 2010. The modernised sub-stations for power supply are ready in the SEZ area. SEZ area is getting potable water from Wadgaon dam constructed on Vena river. MADC has laid 34 kms of pipe lines from dam to SEZ area. Company has constructed Sewage Treatment Plant and used water will be recycled for greenery and non-drinking purposes. Water demand for project would be met using dual supply by constructing two small lakes within MIHAN premises which would store water brought from Wadgaon reservoir. The two small lakes have been deepened, cleaned and beautified to store and supply fresh water to MIHAN. Storm drainage work consists of 10 km long channel and 9 cross-drainage work is also being laid in area for providing infrastructure. S V Chahande, Chief Engineer of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) informed The Hitavada that interchanging flyover on Wardha Road has partially been completed while one of its two arms on Wardha Road is near completion while Nagpur Road will take another six months to complete. The three lane, four lane and six lane roads are 80 % completed. Bus stops and majestic SEZ entrance gate is completed. Currently, the MIHAN premises did not have an electric supply and they are fully dependent on generators. MADC has applied for power supply to MSEDCL. The D Y Patil International School was opened last year in non-processing zone of SEZ. The DLF and SICAL Logistics have stopped their construction work in SEZ area. Many IT and other sector companies had booked land in the SEZ area but due to recession, they have not started the construction work.
