Various breeds of the species are available here that ranges from Jamnapari, Usmanabadi, Bhivapuri to mountain breed. Even goats from as far as Punjab have occupied place in the market. However, today the market is witnessing a momentous change where customers are opting for animals that are beautiful and attractive. Taj Ahmed Khan, a customer who has come from Chhinwada to buy one for him, shares his views on the present trend. “I never look for goats that are huge but not beautiful. As we are sacrificing the animal for Allah, it should be the most treasured and beloved possession.” The same opinion was shared by Abdul Razzak Qureshi, whose family manages this business since last 50 years. He informs that the market is flooded with animals ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 90,000. Though the price has increased as compared to last year, still the demand is growing as the number of transactions every day stands proof to the testimony. Razzak remarks that last year many customers went empty handed in search of sheep. Therefore, this time a few goat seller have brought sheeps from Rajasthan that are attracting many eyes. The devastated flood in Andhar Pradesh a few months back has given an edge to the businessmen here in the State. “Floods resulted in complete damage of livestock in Andhra Pradesh. As the demand has increased, many goat seller are planning to sell their animals in AP and reap huge benefits,” says Razzaq. Bakri Eid also brings generous omen for people who sell daily wares to sustain in fierce competition. Men are seen sitting on footpaths with fodder for animals. Leaves packed in bundles cost from Rs 10 to Rs 30. “I earn Rs 200 to Rs 300 per day. And, as Eid is approaching, my earning will increase many folds,” says a confident Tariq with smile on his face. Similarly, people selling colourful bands to tie around the neck of the animal and ghungrus with lyrical sound are noticed at every nook and corner of the market. The festive spirit of animal lovers is high as they indulge in huge bargaining and the sellers motivating them to make highest bid!
