Stuck students miss classes in Nagpur !!

"It was like a scene out of a horror movie," says 12-year-old Sumit Kulte, a student in Borgaon village. "I was one of the first to see the damage. I started imagining that some dragon might be trying to come out of the tar road that was rising and developed huge cracks," he continues. "We have been told to stay away from this place after the incident. My parents and others have still not come out of the shock."

Sumit, a class sixth student of Navbharat High School, Ukhani Village, added that with the road closed he and other students had not been able to go to school. "There are around 40 students in our village who go to Ukhani for secondary education. All of us have been deprived of our classes for last two days. Autorickshaws, the only mode of transport to reach the school 5 km away, are not plying."

Ashmir Kulmethe, 17-year-old student, said that his village had a primary school where around 20 students are enrolled. The teachers there fear that mudslides would continue. They have started conducting classes in open and are not taking the risk of taking classes inside the building.

Another student, Praful Satpute, said that a few days back, a tree feel on a vehicle on this very road due to sliding of the overburden. "My parents have asked me not to loiter around. I used to play cricket with fellow children but can't now. It is very difficult to stay like this."
